I am writing in respect of the proposed expansion of Tesco in Clevedon, and I am wholly against it on several matters, in particular the size of the building will not be in keeping with the residential surroundings, and the road infrastructure isn’t designed for the extra traffic in particular the heavy lorries, which struggle now, and of course the extra emissions from such traffic in a residential area.
Whilst there is a Petrol Station in situ, the new one will back onto houses, and I am sure the petrol fumes and car emissions will have an adverse affect on them, despite what efforts are made to minimize this, at least on the present Petrol Station there is a road & pavement buffer for the houses.
Also the noise level in early hours of the morning, wakes the neighbourhood, and in the evening the boy racers enjoy the race track, and a bigger car park will be something I am sure they will enjoy, as Tesco now do nothing about it, despite promises.
Also in general does Clevedon need a Superstore, they can’t get staff now, unless they expect to get them from the few existing local shops which will eventually close down. The benefits to Clevedon I cannot really see, but whatever they are they are certainly outweighed by the downsides.
I think they should get things right in the present situation, before they venture into expansion, which lets be honest they are doing it for Tesco, not particularly for Clevedon.
It will be a new landmark to be seen from the Motorway, so clearly put Clevedon on the Map !!
Hopefully Clevedon will support to stop this expansion, so we keep that special something about the Town.
